Coastal Floor Coverings

Recent Work Highlights: Prep, Precision, and Project Flow

Floors You Can Feel the Difference In

While the final result always matters, what happens before the first plank or tile is laid is where long-term success is built.

This past season, the Coastal Floor Coverings team has been busy across Monterey Bay—from Pebble Beach to Salinas—handling a wide range of flooring installs with a focus on solid prep, clean finishes, and client-first service. Whether it’s correcting subfloor issues or refining stair transitions, here’s a look at what we’ve been up to—and what makes our work different.

It All Starts with a Stable Foundation

One of the most common issues we encounter on-site is an uneven or compromised subfloor. Before any flooring goes down, we assess and correct for:

  • Uneven concrete slabs or wood subfloors

  • Moisture intrusion or soft spots

  • Squeaks, gaps, or floor movement

We often float minor imperfections using leveling compound, patch over seams, and install appropriate underlayments—especially for vinyl plank, hardwood, and tile. These small steps make a huge difference in how the floor feels and performs over time.

“You won’t always see the prep work, but you’ll definitely feel it—and appreciate it years from now.”

Clean Demo, Thoughtful Execution

Our recent projects have included everything from carpet tear-outs and adhesive scraping to tile and hardwood demo in sensitive spaces. In every case, we tailor the process to the property:

  • Protecting furniture and finishes

  • Isolating work zones from the rest of the home

  • Managing debris and cleanup professionally

  • Working room-by-room when needed for clients staying on-site

We’re often called in not just for new flooring—but to fix what wasn’t done right the first time. That’s where clean removal and proper re-prep come in.

Stair Treads, Transitions & Custom Detailing

Stairs are one of the most technical and visible areas of any flooring job. We’ve completed multiple recent projects involving:

  • New hardwood stair tread installs

  • Carpeted runners with custom binding

  • Stair wraps and waterfall techniques

  • Custom landings and trim work for curved staircases

Precision on stairs takes time and focus—and that’s exactly what our crew brings.

A Few Project Snapshots

While we respect client privacy and don’t always photograph our installs, here’s a look at the kind of work we’ve been doing:

  • Full LVP install in a Pacific Grove home, including floor float and stair treads

  • Hardwood refinishing and new matching plank install in Carmel Valley

  • Carpet tear-out and clean LVP install in a Seaside commercial office

  • Custom stair runner install with patterned carpet in Pebble Beach

  • Demo + new tile work in a master bath refresh in Monterey

Why the Details Matter

Every project is different—but our standards stay the same: the right product, the right method, and the right people doing it. That’s what keeps floors looking great and feeling solid long after the install is done.

If you’re considering updating your space, our journal is a great place to get a feel for how we work. And if you’re ready to take the next step, we’re here for that too.
